# Automatic spam detection

## Overview

Quo can flag calls that are likely spam before you pick up. When a call is flagged, a **potential spam** indicator appears in your conversation list and in the conversation header, so you can decide at a glance whether to answer, ignore, or block.

<Note>
  Automatic spam detection is in open beta. It's available on all Quo plans, for US numbers only, on web and desktop.

## How it works

When a call comes in, Quo checks it against spam signals from your carrier network, the same kind of signals carriers use to flag spam broadly. There's nothing to set up. Detection runs automatically on every incoming call.

Detection accuracy is still being measured and refined while this feature is in beta. Quo doesn't guarantee a specific accuracy rate at this stage.

## What you can do with a flagged call

* **Answer or ignore as usual.** The label adds context. It doesn't change how the call rings or routes.
* **Mark as not spam.** If a flagged call turns out to be legitimate, mark it as not spam so the label no longer appears on calls or conversations from that caller.
* **Save the caller as a contact.** Saving a flagged number as a contact also removes the potential spam label.
* **Block the sender.** Block the caller directly from the conversation to stop future calls from that number. Learn more in [Blocking contacts](/core-concepts/contacts/blocking).

## Availability

Automatic spam detection is available on all Quo plans, for US numbers only (US to US calls).

<Note>
  Automatic spam detection is rolling out platform by platform. iOS and Android support is coming soon.

## Limitations

Spam detection relies on carrier scoring signals, so it isn't perfect. A small number of legitimate calls may be flagged, including some calls routed through certain ad platforms. If you notice a pattern of legitimate calls being marked as spam, [submit a support request](https://support.quo.com/help/submit-a-request) so the team can look into it.

## FAQs

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Why was a legitimate call marked as potential spam?">
    Spam detection is based on carrier scoring signals, and those signals aren't always accurate. If a legitimate caller gets flagged, mark the call as not spam or save the caller as a contact to remove the label going forward.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How accurate is spam detection?">
    Automatic spam detection is in open beta, and accuracy is still being measured and improved. Quo doesn't publish a specific accuracy rate while the feature is in beta.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Is automatic spam detection available in Canada?">
    No. The beta currently supports US numbers only, for US to US calls.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Will spam detection come to iOS and Android?">
    iOS support is temporarily paused while an issue is resolved. Android support is pending app store approval. Both will roll out once they're ready.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What's the difference between this and a number showing as Scam Likely?">
    Automatic spam detection flags calls you receive that look like spam. A number showing as **Scam Likely** to the people you're calling is a separate issue related to your own number's carrier reputation. See [SHAKEN/STIR and spam protection](/core-concepts/calling/clear-spam-labels) for that.
